Our Community

We are an Anishinaabe First Nation descendant from the Chippewas of Lakes Huron and Simcoe. We are Ojibwe peoples, part of the Three Fires Confederacy along with the Odawa and Pottawatomi Nations. It has been said that we were referred as the people who live near the fence, or at Mitchekuning. Now spelled Mnjikaning.

Rama is a proud and progressive community with a goal to care for our people’s well-being at the centre of all we do. This includes a Senior’s Centre, Early Childhood Education Centre and Elementary School with cultural significance worked into all aspects. We have a Health Centre that hosts various medical and well-being specialists and our Recreation and Culture Departments develop and deliver classes and ceremony for all stages of life and events. With the establishment of our Maawnjiydiwaag Gtigaan (Community Farm) we are now adding food security and sovereignty to serve our people.

Rama radiates with the spirit that has made us a thriving community.  The Seven Grandfather teachings passed down from the Creator are at the centre of community culture.  These traditions form the backbone of a community that draws strength and inspiration from the past while preparing for its future.
